which teeth whitening option is right for meBright, white teeth are a sign of a healthy mouth, but they may not be as easy to achieve through brushing and flossing as we would like. At Woodlands Premier Dentistry, we offer Zoom!® Advanced Power System tooth whitening to help the natural beauty of your smile shine brighter. We offer teeth whitening both in-office and as a take-home procedure. Both options can dramatically whiten your smile.

Whiter Teeth in One Visit

Zoom!® Advanced Power System makes your teeth visibly brighter in just one office visit, instead of requiring whitening over a period of two weeks, like an at-home whitener. Professional tooth whitening is also able to brighten the area of your teeth closest to the gums, and even the spaces between your teeth, which over-the-counter whiteners are unable to reach.

The Zoom® teeth whitening system uses a few simple steps:

  • Your lips and gums are protected
  • The proprietary Zoom!® gel is applied to your teeth
  • A proprietary blue light activates the gel
  • The process is repeated for three 15-minute periods
  • You leave our office with a brighter, whiter smile

At Woodlands Premier dentistry, our guests take home whitening trays to help enhance and prolong the results of professional teeth whitening. The effects of professional tooth whitening can last as long as a year depending on the types of food and drink you ingest. Some foods and drinks, such as red wine or coffee, are more likely to stain your teeth.

Teeth Whitening at Home

If you are looking for the best whitening results and don’t need them quickly, at-home teeth whitening may be the right option for you. At-home whitening also allows you to improve and maintain your teeth whitening results from -in-office whitening so you can always enjoy a brilliantly white smile.

At-home whitening from our office is better than over-the-counter whitening products for several reasons:

  • Customized tray improves whitening and reduces irritation
  • Stronger concentration of whitening formula
  • Treatment can be modified to help counter tooth sensitivity

With over-the-counter whiteners, many people experience only limited results, and sometimes these results are uneven because the tray or strip doesn’t fit fully over their teeth. With our whitening procedure, you can experience better results because the customized tray distributes whiteners evenly and the strong solution is kept close to your teeth. In addition, we can help if you start to feel sensitivity. With modifications of the formula, it’s usually possible to virtually eliminate tooth sensitivity.

Limitations of Professional Whitening

Professional whitening is an effective treatment for extrinsic discoloration, such as from tobacco, coffee, or tea. However, if your teeth have been intrinsically stained from chemicals or illness, porcelain veneers or dental crowns may be necessary to create a whiter smile. Intrinsic tooth staining occurs in a very small percentage of the population and may only affect one or a few teeth.

If you are unhappy with your smile for reasons other than discoloration, professional whitening may not be sufficient to help you achieve your desired smile. Teeth whitening cannot correct crooked teeth, decayed teeth, chipped teeth, or broken teeth. During your initial consultation, Houston cosmetic dentist Dr. Scott Young may recommend that you have additional restorations performed on your teeth before professional tooth whitening. Like at-home whitening systems, professional teeth whitening may cause sensitivity in some guests’ teeth.
