Symptoms of Gingivitis

gingivitisThe Woodlands and Houston, TX

Gingivitis is the most common form of gum disease. In fact, it is estimated that a majority of people will have gingivitis at some point in their adult lives. Once gingivitis develops, taking swift action can help prevent the progression of gum disease, which is essential for optimal oral health.

Identifying Gingivitis

The earliest symptoms of gingivitis are swollen, red gums that bleed easily. If your gums bleed when you brush your teeth or eat crunchy foods, it is best to schedule an appointment with Houston dentist Dr. Scott Young as soon as possible.

Other symptoms of gingivitis may include:

  •  A chronic unpleasant taste in the mouth
  •  Bad breath that will not respond to brushing

These symptoms often indicate gingivitis or another oral health issue and should be addressed by an experienced dentist right away.

Treating Gingivitis

Gingivitis can generally be treated through a combination of professional dental cleanings and a more thorough at-home routine. When necessary, Dr. Young may also prescribe an antibacterial mouthwash to maximize results.   Once gingivitis has been treated you can help prevent its reoccurrence by brushing after every meal and snack, flossing twice a day, and visiting our office every six months for professional cleanings and examinations.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of gingivitis, please contact The Woodlands Premier Dentistry today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Scott Young.
