The Woodlands and Houston, TX

There are billions of bacteria in your mouth. Much of this bacteria feeds on sugar and starch, and when it does, it excretes an acidic product that can quickly eat through the enamel of your teeth. When these bacteria are left in place for long periods of time, their acids will decay the tooth, resulting in cavities. When cavities are left untreated, they can result in more serious issues including tooth infection and gum disease.

Preventing Cavities

The two primary steps in preventing cavities are avoiding beverages and foods high in sugar and starch and adopting a good dental hygiene routine. Your daily routine should consist of brushing your teeth after every meal or at least twice a day, and flossing one or more times a day. To help prevent gum disease, it is best to floss both morning and night.   Your at-home routine needs to be complimented by twice yearly visits to out Houston area office for cleanings and examinations. During these visits we can remove plaque and tartar that is holding bacteria in place, and check for signs of oral health issues before they become serious problems.
