The Dental Implant Process

The Woodlands and Houston, TX

A gap in your smile can not only be unsightly and embarrassing, but missing teeth can also be detrimental to your oral health. If left alone, the other teeth in your mouth will shift toward the empty space, which can alter your bite and lead to painful symptoms like TMJ headaches and jaw pain.

Dental implants are an ideal solution for tooth loss. A dental implant is a titanium root used to replace your natural tooth root, from which a dental crown can be attached to restore a healthy, functional bite.

The Dental Implant Procedure

Woodlands Premier Dentistry is one of very few Houston dental practices with an implant dentist who can perform a complete dental implant procedure in-house. From start to finish, our Houston implant dentist Dr. Scott Young will provide personalized attention and care as he restores your smile.

The dental implant process starts with a 3D CAT scan to measure the density and dimensions of your jaw bone to get a precise placement for your dental implant. When you are ready for the implant to be placed, Dr. Young will give you a local anesthetic. He will then insert the titanium post into a small hole into your jaw bone. Next, you will undergo a healing period of three to six months while your tissue and bone fuse to the implant and hold it in place (osseointegration).

When you return to Woodlands Premier Dentistry, your Houston cosmetic dentist Dr. Young will attach and permanently cement your replacement tooth crown into place. The result is a strong, natural-looking tooth that can last a lifetime if cared for properly.
