Texas Ranks 45th in the Nation for Adult Dental Care

The Woodlands and Houston, TX

In May of 2014, Gallup released state-by-state numbers of how many adults seek routine dental care such as cleanings and examinations. Across the nation, an average of 64.7 percent of adults report seeing a dentist at least once in 2013 for a regularly scheduled preventive care visit. In Texas, only 56.3 percent of adults reported seeking routine care, placing our state in the bottom five for dental health nationally.

An unrelated study conducted by Kaiser Family Foundation ranks Texas at 14th in states with the highest number of adults who do not have any of their natural teeth. While these studies were unrelated there is, without a doubt, a correlation between their findings: the fewer adults that seek routine dental care, the more adults who are missing all of their teeth.

Routine Dental Care

While some cosmetic dentistry problems such as surface staining can be addressed though general care, it is oral health that benefits most from routine office visits. Biannual appointments at our office allow us to thoroughly clean and polish your teeth. They also allow Dr. Young to check for indications of tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer, all of which can have serious consequences when left undetected.

Oral health issues are often unnoticeable until they become serious problems. The best way to prevent small issues from becoming painful and often expensive problems is by maintaining regularly scheduled visits with our experienced Houston dentist.
