What is Invisalign?
Invisalign™ is a type of clear plastic aligner that straightens teeth quickly and comfortably, though they are nearly invisible. People may not even know you are wearing them. Dr. Scott Young will create custom-made Invisalign aligners for your teeth, to correct aesthetic imperfections in your smile such as underbite or overbite, crossbite, crowded teeth, and widely-spaced teeth.
How long will I wear Invisalign aligners?
Most Invisalign wearers only need to use aligners for a year or less. Conventional metal braces must be worn for at least two years, and sometimes more.
Will I wear my Invisalign at night?
Yes. You should wear your Invisalign aligners 24 hours a day, even when you are sleeping. But unlike conventional braces that can only be removed by a dentist, you can remove Invisalign aligners yourself, any time you need to eat, drink, and brush your teeth.
Will my Invisalign need special, fussy cleaning, like conventional braces?
No. Invisalign aligners are easy to remove while eating and drinking, so food particles don't become trapped in them. Then simply brush your teeth and replace your aligners.
Do Invisalign have to be tightened, like conventional braces?
No. Instead, you will receive a new aligner every two weeks, which has been custom-made to keep realigning your teeth.
I always thought braces hurt. Are Invisalign uncomfortable?
No. Most Invisalign wearers feel no discomfort from their aligners. A few patients with sensitive teeth or gums have mild, temporary discomfort when they switch to a new aligner.
How often will I see the dentist?
You don’t need to see Dr. Young each time you pick up your new aligners. You will only need a check-up every six weeks or so.
Will everyone know I have braces?
Maybe not. Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic, not shiny metal like conventional braces. Invisalign aligners are thin and transparent, and much harder to see than braces, so many people won’t even know you’re wearing them.
