Questions About Dental Veneers
Houston, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Spring, and Conroe, Texas
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are extremely thin pieces of porcelain that are shaped, tinted, and applied to prepared teeth. They may be applied to an individual tooth or to several teeth to create a whole new smile. When created and applied correctly, they look like perfect, natural teeth.
What do dental veneers correct?
While porcelain veneers cannot correct every type of dental malady, they are effective in correcting the appearance of:
- Crooked teeth
- Too-small teeth
- Teeth with gaps
- Damaged teeth
- Chemically discolored teeth that do not respond to teeth whitening
Dental veneers cannot treat cavities, replace missing teeth, or repair broken teeth. However, porcelain fillings, inlays and onlays, and porcelain crowns are available to treat these and other problems such as chipped teeth and gaps between teeth.
What types of dental veneers are available?
While there are many types of dental veneers available, custom porcelain veneers are the most natural-looking and therefore the most sought after. Most LVI dentists recommend custom porcelain veneers created at a lab or in-office over brand-name dental veneers, which are often applied over unprepared teeth and may not offer the color variations and brilliance afforded by completely custom dental veneers. You can learn more about the types of porcelain veneers on our Porcelain Veneer Options page.
