The Porcelain Veneers Process
Houston, The Woodlands, Kingwood, Spring, and Conroe, Texas
Versatile and durable, porcelain veneers—also known as dental veneers—are an increasingly popular option for treating discolored teeth, spaced teeth, crooked teeth, and chipped and cracked teeth.
Houston cosmetic dentist Dr. Scott Young uses the highest quality dental-grade porcelain to create your custom-fit veneers and provide you with a smile that’s as strong as it is beautiful.
Designing Your Smile
Prior to recommending porcelain veneers, Dr. Young will conduct a thorough exam to ensure that porcelain veneers are the best treatment option for your specific condition and that you have the healthy foundation necessary to support porcelain veneers.
If it’s determined the porcelain veneers are right for you, the size, shape and condition of your teeth will be evaluated and serve as the basis for discussing your aesthetic goals and developing a treatment plan custom-made to restore your smile.
Tooth Preparation for Porcelain Veneers
The application of your porcelain veneers will require two visits. Your first appointment will focus on preparing your teeth for your porcelain veneers and taking the impressions that will serve as the basis for your custom-fit porcelain veneers.
First, a small layer of tooth enamel will be removed to allow for the added density of your veneers. Then, Dr. Young will make impressions of your teeth which will be used to create your permanent porcelain veneers.
Temporary Dental Veneers
After the molds of your natural teeth are made, Dr. Young will fit you with temporary veneers. Your teeth impressions will be sent to the dental lab which will craft your individual porcelain veneers.
Your temporary veneers will resemble your permanent porcelain veneers, but they are created with dental bonding. Though less durable than porcelain veneers, your temporary veneers are designed to offer functionality and protect your teeth while your custom veneers are designed to your specific aesthetic and functional needs.
Placing Your Porcelain Veneers
Your second dental veneers appointment will entail removing your temporary veneers and applying your porcelain veneers.
Your porcelain veneers will be placed and checked for proper fit and color. Dr. Young will tint your porcelain veneers for a natural appearance and adjust them to align with your existing teeth for a beautiful, symmetrical smile.
When you are pleased with the color, fit and overall appearance of your rejuvenated smile, Dr. Young will bond the porcelain veneers to your teeth. With proper dental hygiene, your porcelain veneers may last a lifetime.
