Dental Implant Candidacy

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants offer the most complete, permanent, and natural looking option for tooth replacement. A dental implant is a small titanium cylinder that is permanently fastened into your jawbone in place of the original tooth root.

A tiny extension is then attached to the implant and a dental crown is permanently bonded to it. The result is a new tooth that replicates the function and appearance of your natural tooth.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you are interested in replacing one tooth or multiple missing teeth, dental implants may be the solution for you. However, not everyone is a candidate for dental implants. Ideal candidates should have:

• Good overall health
• Healthy gums
• Enough bone to anchor the implants in the jaw
• A commitment to daily brushing and flossing.

Dental implants can be placed any time after adolescence or when bone growth is complete. Risk of Implant Failure

Although most dental implant surgeries are successful, there is a chance that your surrounding bone and tissue will fail to properly heal around your dental implant. The chance of this happening is greater among individuals who take immune system suppressants or who smoke and/or drink alcohol heavily, as this impedes healing.
