Dental Implants
Houston, the Woodlands, Kingwood, Spring, and Conroe, Texas
If you are missing a tooth, you should know that there are several options available to replace it. Traditionally, dental bridges or removable false teeth were the best options available to replace your missing teeth. However, dental technology and dental medicine have advanced so far in the last two decades that many individuals are now able to have their missing teeth replaced with dental implants that look, feel, and perform exactly like your natural teeth.
A dental implant consists of two parts:
- Titanium Post
- Dental Crown
Titanium is used for the post because it is the highest grade surgical metal available and is hypoallergenic. Titanium also interacts well with the bone tissue into which it is inserted.
Inserting the Titanium Post
First, Houston implant dentist Dr. Scott Young will ensure that you have enough healthy bone and gum tissue to support a dental implant with a 3-dimensional CAT scan that detects the height, width and density of your bone. This allows perfect placement of the implants and eliminates all guess work from the positioning of the titanium post.
Many dental offices have to refer their patients to external specialists to place titanium posts because it is a highly specialized procedure and requires specific training. However, because Dr. Young has completed training for implant dentistry, all our dental implants are completed entirely in-house.
Affixing the Dental Crown
Once the titanium post is placed, it is necessary to wait for a period of time to allow the bone to grow back around the post and secure it in place. When Dr. Young has examined the post and found it to be stable enough to support the dental implant, a porcelain crown shaped and colored to match your surrounding teeth is affixed to the post and cemented into place, and your dental implant procedure is complete.
Caring for Your Dental Implant
You may care for your dental implant exactly as you do your natural teeth, remembering to observe good dental hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day, as well as having a professional dental cleaning every six months. You may eat and drink normally, as dental porcelain is resilient and should not chip or crack under normal use.
